About Laser Treatments
Here at Hometown Spa, we are “light” years ahead in the development of hair removal solutions. Laser Hair Removal is an ideal option for those looking for permanent results, smooth and silky skin without the hassle.
We use the “PRIME” method for removing unwanted hair.
Hair grows in cycles and Laser Hair Removal treatment only captures hair that is growing at the time of the procedure, a series of treatments is required. Along with your hair’s growth which varies due to age, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism — many factors dictate the amount of recommended treatments; the area you wish to have treated, hair density, hair color and ethnicity.
For this reason, a consultation is highly recommended.
Laser Treatment Procedure:
Your Laser Hair Removal begins with a cleansing of the area that will be receiving treatment, if needed . As the laser moves over the treatment area, energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. All of the treated hair follicles are disabled in less than a second.
It is a common misconception that you should let your hair grow out before receiving Laser Hair Removal. Although you should not tweeze, wax or use depilatory creams 2-3 weeks prior to your laser hair removal treatments, it is RECOMMENDED you shave on the day or two days before your appointment.
Laser Treatment After Care:
At the end of your laser procedure, the treated area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities. Sunscreen should be used on any area exposed to the sun. A special skin care line or routine may be recommended for your specific skin type as well.
Redness and swelling may occur around the hair follicle of the treated area lasting up to to 24 hours after treatment.
Precautions with Laser:
Those patients who are exposed to the sun, use tanning beds or spray tan, take medications such as Retin-A or antibiotics, or have recently had a chemical peel are more vulnerable to more serious side effects such as hyper and hypo pigmentation or scarring. Be sure to tell your technician if any of the above applies before starting treatment.

How Electrolysis Works
Electrolysis Procedure:
Electrolysis is effective for individuals of any skin type, hair type, and hair colour. The amount of treatments needed vary from individual to individual. It is a very safe procedure.
Electrolysis is the only proven scientific method of removing hair permanently. This technique can be done on almost all areas of the body. It has been recognized by knowledgeable physicians and there have been numerous scientific articles published.
Electrolysis is the specialty of removing hair by inserting a single, sterile fine needle into the hair follicle. This electronic device is called an epilator. The epilator works by destroying the root of the hair follicle by either heat, a chemical reaction or both at the same time.
Whether there is discomfort during electrolysis is quite variable. It does depend on the client's tolerance, epilator setting, modality setting and other factors. During most treatments a definite sensation should be noticed, it has been described as a slight heat, tingling, or stinging sensation. Adjustments can be made to make the treatment more comfortable for the client.
Some Improvement should be seen within the first few treatments provided the client adheres to the recommended treatment schedule. It is important to remember that time, commitment and patience are needed for full results.
Electrolysis After Care:
Because electrolysis does destroy the dermal papilla of the hair, slight redness and mild swelling can be expected. Your skin will normalize quickly, anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours. In some rare circumstances scabs may form over treated follicles., it is part of the normalizing process and does not leave any permanent damage providing you do not pick or scratch at the scabs. Doing so may cause hyper or hypopigmentation to occur. Your trained electrologist will recommend the best post treatment care.
Precautions with Electrolysis
Any individual under the age of 18, must have parental, or guardian consent and be present for the treatment. Your electrologist should have a consultation with you and ask the relevant medical questions to see if you're a suitable candidate. A few situations require a doctor's note of permission before commencing with your treatment.
Time is a factor for choosing electrolysis in today's fast paced world. Dealing with unwanted hair in a temporary way is tedious, costly, and never ending. Permanent hair removal frees you from this daily routine. Electrolysis also improves your physical appearance, self-image, and decreases anxiety caused by unwanted hair, giving you back your self confidence.
Electrolysis is billed by 15 minutes to 1 hour treatment sessions.
