About Laser Tattoo Removal
Today, lasers are the most common method of tattoo removal. They work by targeting the ink and shattering it into tiny fragments which are then cleared away by your own immune system over several weeks.

Prior to your first treatment a consultation is necessary.
We will review your medical history, assess location of tattoo, size, colour and age of tattoo.
This will also give you time to ask any questions.
Ultimately we cannot know precisely how many treatments will be necessary.
Most tattoo removals will take several treatments.
It is not unusual to take over a year for maximum results.
There are many factors that can affect the speed of fading such as patient health, age, and immune system.
Laser Tattoo Removal Procedure:
The laser fires in rapid bursts, it is described as feeling like an elastic band snapping against the skin. For your comfort, you may choose to use an anesthetic (numbing) cream an hour prior to each treatment.

This can be purchased over the counter at a pharmacy or at the spa, you do not need a prescription.
Laser Tattoo Removal After Care:
Following treatment, the tattoo may feel hot, be red and swollen for the rest of the day. Large professional or dark tattoos could remain tender or swollen for several days, occasionally that will be followed by a scab or crust. The tattoo will not look different immediately, but will fade a little over a few weeks. You can use acetaminophen for discomfort.

Polysporin antibiotic cream can be used to help the healing process. If the treated area is not improving, contact the clinic for further advice.
Precautions with Tattoo Removal:
Prior to treatments, it is important to avoid sun exposure. A suntan gets in the way of the laser light. Avoid the sun or use a strong sun block.

It is recommended to space treatments at least 6 weeks apart to allow the skin time to normalize. With the advancement in technology of laser machines the risk of scarring is unlikely, but can occur if you do not follow aftercare instructions. It is important to be gentle with the treated area, it should not need to be covered with a dressing after the first 24 hours.
